The Undergraduate Advising Office exists to create a caring environment that encourages students to take responsibility for their academic career and future.

Our offices are located in SIS-107 and 208 and open from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Each advisor holds two hours of walk-ins per day. Walk-ins are intended for quick questions of 10-15 minutes. If you have several questions, want to review your academic progress, etc., we encourage you to schedule an advising appointment. Advising appointments may be scheduled online at www.american.edu/sis/appointment.

Thinking about applying to SIS as an incoming freshman or as a transfer student? You may want to consider joining American University for a Preview Day, with a full program of information. American offers several Preview Days each fall. You can also schedule a Day Visit, which gives you a chance to meet with an advisor, attend a class, and have lunch with a current student. Please call 202-885-1639 and our Advising Assistant will be happy to schedule an appointment for you to meet with one of our academic advisors.
