Students staying on campus must register for both a morning and afternoon class. Discover the World of Communication courses are professional, hands-on summer workshops for high school students. Participants will receive a copy of the work they produce, a certificate, and an evaluation. 

A $200 non-refundable deposit will be applied towards course fees and is due at the time of registration. Make checks out to American University. You can enclose a check with your registration by mail or call 202-885-2098 to pay with credit card. There is a 2.55% convenience fee for credit card transactions.

If you wish to withdraw from a course, email your cancellation request to audiscover@american.edu. To receive a refund, you must notify us 30 days prior to the first class. A $275 nonrefundable processing fee will apply.

In fact, there is! There are three convenient ways to pay for the program.

  1. Send a check made payable to American University your Discover the World of Communication Registration Form,
  2. Email the registration form to audiscover@american.edu,
  3. Once you received a welcome packet, it will contain steps that can be done to pay online.

You may make arrangements to extend your payments, but all payments must be made, in full, prior to the start of the program. Your payment must cover the cost of all the courses you select and the housing, dining, metro and after hours and weekend activities of $1800 (two weeks) or $3900 (four weeks), if you wish to live on campus.

The fee covers student housing on campus in Anderson Hall, meals and all after hour and weekend activities. Your Discover the World of Communication Resident Assistant will guide you on your first day of the program. 

In 2017, some of the classes were filled by early March. Additional course sections are added when possible.
