Leena Jayaswal, an associate professor of Film and Media Arts at American University, talks about the importance of still images in the digital media landscape. Jayaswal says still photography can serve as a base for students to move into digital video production. By learning the proper techniques for capturing a photograph on film, students can be more creative and more efficient once they move on to other mediums.
Jayaswal gives her students real dark room experience and teaches them about the history of photography. She hopes this will give students a more comprehensive understanding of how to produce better images as well as what impact their work can have on society.
