New Hampshire Primary as Classroom

Video by Ford Fischer (SOC/BA '16)

Live from New Hampshire

American University’s School of Communication and School of Public Affairs joined forces to take students to New Hampshire for the 2016 primary as part of a semester-long course on the presidential primaries.

The multi-disciplinary class—a mix of graduates and undergraduates in a variety of majors—met with campaign strategists, reporters, producers and party officials to learn about strategy, media coverage and government.

Developed by SOC professors Lynne Perri, Bill Gentile, and the late Dotty Lynch in 2008, this is the third election in which AU students traveled to Manchester, N.H., to cover the nation’s first primary.
