American University School of Communication professor Bill Gentile donated rights to the use and distribution of his photojournalism collection to the University Library. The collection includes some 30,000 images that Gentile has generated since he began his career in 1977.

He delivered an address honoring the people who helped him throughout his career in a ceremony that marked the donation.

Gentile is an independent journalist and documentary filmmaker with nearly four decades of field experience. He began his career in Mexico City, and then went on to work as Newsweek Magazine’s contract photographer for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Bill Gentile Photojournalism Collection will be housed in Archives and Special Collections in the University Library.
