SOC Grads Win Regional Student Oscar
Lauren DeAngelis and Joe Bohannon’s film A Place to Land is a regional winner of the 2009 Student Academy Awards.
A Place to Land is a conservation and wildlife documentary following the journeys of homeless parrots in captivity across the nation, from foster homes in Northern Virginia to remote sanctuaries in Arizona and Utah.
DeAngelis produced, directed and edited A Place to Land. A recent graduate of SOC’s Film and Media Arts master's program, she is passionate about conserving wildlife and the environment. Bohannon, director of cinematography and sound technician for the short documentary film, is an M.F.A. candidate in the Film and Electronic Media program.
DeAngelis and Bohannon founded Fly Away Films to provide high-quality video productions, with a focus on environmental documentaries.
A Place to Land has won the Golden Palm Award at the 2009 Mexico International Film Festival, an Indie Award of Merit at the 2009 Indie Distribution Fest was selected as an Honorable Mention for Educational Value in the Conservation Environmental Issue category at the 2009 International Wildlife Film Festival.
As a regional Academy Award Winner, A Place to Land is the running for a national Student Academy Award. The winners for the national competition will be in late May.
