    Solar Decathlon

    American University, in partnership with Catholic University & GWU, is part of Team Capitol dc in the Solar Decathlon 2013. They're tasked with designing a home that educates the public about opportunities presented by clean-energy products and gives student participants unique training in a built project, preparing them to enter the nation’s workforce.

    Legendary journalist Tom Brokaw and SOC Distinguished Journalist-in-Residence Nick Clooney shared riveting stories of their experience as television reporters who were inspired by the vigorous young President at the Newseum and SOC co-sponsored event.

    Interns on the local desk are only the start of an SOC-led partnership between AU and the Washington Post.

The School of Communication’s Partnerships and Projects staff actively recruits partners to create mutually beneficial relationships. SOC is expanding a long-term relationship with the Washington Post to include Dean's Internships, a graduate fellowship and science journalism classes writing for the Post.  A relationship with NBC4 resulted in student work appearing both on the website and local affiliate. Sharon Metcalf (above) is the senior director of the department and is continuing to establish new relationships and expand our long-standing partnerships with The Newseum, AP, Gannett, USA TODAY and many others.
