Teens and Grandparents

SOC Preserving Family Stories grandparents and kid

Digital Storytelling Camp for Grandparents & Kids: This week-long program teaches campers ages 10 to 15 and a grandparent or older adult how to produce, edit and upload a three to five-minute family story using a flip camera. The new camp is a natural outgrowth of the popular Discover the World of Communication summer program that draws more than 500 students from across the country. Discover students learn skills that range from backpack journalism to photography and animation.

Discover the World of Communication: Our summer program will teach you broadcasting, news and sports writing, filmmaking, digital editing, and anything else you need to satisfy your communications cravings. Film and Digital Media Institute: This exciting program offers intensive courses and workshops that are geared toward both experienced film and digital media professionals as well as beginners in the field. Classroom in the Wild: Extreme HD Alaska

Classroom in the Wild: Extreme HD Alaska is a three-week immersive course in HD filmmaking under challenging environmental and expeditionary conditions. Week one on campus and through distance learning prepares students in extreme filmmaking and survival techniques for the 8-10 day field work in Alaska. In week two, the class flies to Anchorage, Alaska and begins training in the field, concentrating on rock, glacier, and water, and groups produce short environmental and wildlife films. The last week of the course brings students back to campus for postproduction and project completion. Learn More
