Jeremy Shiffman, Associate Professor of Public Administration and Policy, has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Gary and Stacey Jacobs Award for Health Policy Research. This research support award was established by Gary and Stacey Jacobs in the fall of 2011, and recognizes an SPA faculty member for exemplary research in health policy/public health related fields. Gary Jacobs (MPA/SPA’76) is the senior vice president for corporate development and government affairs at Universal American and a member of the SPA Dean's Advisory Council. Stacey Jacobs is active with a number of service organizations in the D.C. area and is a member of the Women & Politics Institute Director's Circle at AU.
Professor Shiffman's research focuses on the politics of health policy and administration in poor countries. He has a particular interest in health agenda-setting: why some issues receive priority while others are neglected. His research has been funded by the Gates, MacArthur and Rockefeller Foundations, among other organizations, and his work has appeared in many leading journals, including The Lancet, The American Journal of Public Health, and Social Science and Medicine.
