The School of Public Affairs and Project Vote hosted a one-day conference organized by Professor Jan Leighley that brought together leading scholars of voter turnout, citizens, advocates, and policymakers to engage in a conversation about what we know about voter turnout and how to increase it. Panel presentations provided brief overviews of recent and innovative academic research on voter registration and turnout, with discussion focused on how scholarly research can inform citizen engagement and policy-making. Topics included: the effects of election laws; information and participation; social media and social context; and research challenges in studying voter registration and turnout.
