Combined B.A./M.A. in Political Science

Program Description

This program enables qualified students to earn, in a continuous plan of study, both the B.A. in Political Science or a related discipline and the M.A. in Political Science.

Admission to the Program

Admission to the combined B.A./M.A. program requires junior standing, a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale), a completed application form (available from the Department of Government,) a written faculty recommendation, an essay on the student's interests and abilities in political science and an interview with the Department of Government graduate adviser.

Acceptance and participation in the B.A./M.A. program does not automatically guarantee acceptance into the graduate program. Students must apply for admission to the graduate program through the Graduate Admissions Office no later than the last undergraduate semester. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for admission to the M.A. program.

Students may take up to 9 credit hours in 500 or 600 level courses specified by the Department of Government as applicable to both the B.A. and M.A. degrees. Recommended preparatory courses for the combined B.A./M.A. program include courses in political science and statistics.
