Jefferson

The Delaware in D.C. program consists of five three-credit courses and a one-credit UD seminar course, for a total of 16 credits. All of these credits will be part of participants’ academic transcript at the University of Delaware, ensuring graduation on time.

Your semester will consist of:

American University courses

  • Intercultural Understanding – 3 credits
  • College Writing – 3 credits
  • Mentored Field Practicum (Internship class) – 3 credits
  • One freshman level elective course to be selected from American University’s course offerings, subject to prerequisites and availability – 3 credits

University of Delaware courses

  • Passport to the Arts – 3 credits
  • First Year Experience Seminar – 1 credit

Your AU elective course will be selected from a list of American University’s range of offerings in different fields. This course will be pre-approved by the University of Delaware, so its equivalency will transfer smoothly for spring semester.

The Mentored Field Practicum class supports your internship and will meet every other week as a class with your faculty advisor. These meetings consist of discussions that will enhance your professional development. Along with the MFP class, each student will have an off-site work experience as an intern two days a week in any of the thousands of offices that provide internships in D.C. every semester.

Delaware in D.C. is a University of Delaware program. Students enrolled in the Delaware in D.C. Program will not be permitted to transfer to American University at the conclusion of the semester.
