Interview with Marcus Pfeiffer International Affairs, Fall 2015

Graduate Professional Studies Student Marcus Pfeiffer
What was your background prior to Graduate Professional Studies?
I did the Graduate Professional Studies while being enrolled for the Master in Business Administration and Management at Düsseldorf University, Germany.

Why did you choose to participate in Graduate Professional Studies?
I have always been crazy about International Affairs. The Graduate Professional Studies at American University gave me the perfect opportunity to experience this field in the most unforgettable way!

Where did you intern? What were some daily tasks at your internship? Favorite part?
I was interning with the Volkswagen Group of America during the Volkswagen Group's most challenging time ever. It was simply fascinating to see the internal and the external perspective on the emission issue.

Did you know what your career/academic path looked like before you joined the program?
Being active in business and journalism I was always not sure which path I should follow in the future. The GPS/GPS showed me that I definitely want a mixture of both.

What was your #1 takeaway from the Program? What would you tell others considering GPS?
I have learnt that with a basic knowledge in self-management, some general business skills and the will to familliarize yourself with a topic we can do every job. So, nothing can stop us!

What did you do after completing your GPS semester?
After the GGP/GPS I have been continuing my master studies at Düsseldorf University with a higher motivation and focus than ever!

How would you summarize your experience in AU's Graduate Professional Studies?
Always having been crazy about International Affairs, the GPS program was the perfect opportunity to get an overview about all relevant theories and topics in this field. The fascinating atmosphere of DC, all the inspiring professors and especially my amazing classmates with their outstanding characters let my personality grow during this unforgettable semester!
