The Graduate Gateway Program offers veterans the professional development resources needed to start the transition from military service to the classroom and to professional careers.
The Graduate Gateway program is a one-of-a-kind semester that connects classroom learning with real-world experience. Take two graduate classes while you intern, boosting your resume and preparing you for the next step. The program has three components:
Seminar course in a related field (3 credits)
Internship (1 credit)
Traditional elective, graduate-level course (3 credits)
*Students in the Biotechnology track do not have a seminar class; instead, they take two (2) elective courses.
The Graduate Gateway Program is approved for Chapter 33 eligible-Post 911 Benefits. As you transition from your role in the military, the Graduate Gateway Program can be an excellent way to start working towards a graduate degree or to gain more experience in the classroom or in the workplace in a new field.
Veterans entering American University who have never applied for Veteran Benefits, must apply through the Veterans Administration website. After applying for benefits and registering for classes, students must fill out a Certification of Enrollment form for VA Benefits and submit it to the Veteran Services Administrator in AU Central.
To receive the Certification of Enrollment form or to discuss further how Veteran Benefits can be used for the Graduate Gateway Program, please contact Valerie Verra, Veteran Services Administrator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 202-885-8012.
