Description: How do you reach a Millennial clientele and effectively train them to be both more culturally competent and professionally prepared? This session will discuss how Global Experiences achieves these objectives through its international internship program. Participants will learn the methods that this program uses to provide students with international and intercultural experience while they are also gaining invaluable work experience. The presenters will share examples of how digital strategy is used to reach program participants and provide them with constant support as interns and program alumni. Attendees of this session will learn about and discuss social media and other technological best practices for intercultural training, education abroad, and career services.

Program Advisor, Global Experiences
Colleen is a former Peace Corps volunteer with a strong passion for social justice, youth, languages, and religious and cross-cultural dialogue. In May 2013, Colleen completed her Master’s in Intercultural Communication (ICC) at the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, she collaborated closely with faculty and students to design a new graduate level course that focuses on training design and experiential learning. For their work, Colleen and her colleagues received a prestigious award from the president of the university. Colleen currently works at Global Experiences, arranging and coordinating international internships for students and young professionals. Through her work at Global Experiences, she has developed a passion for career development and advising. Colleen is also a recipient of a Critical Language Scholarship from the US Department of State, through which she spent the summer of 2012 studying Modern Standard Arabic in Salalah, Oman. She hopes to become fluent in Modern Standard Arabic, as part of her life goal of encouraging greater understanding between the United States and the Muslim world.
Inbound Marketer & Lead Storyteller, Global Experiences
Meghan is the Inbound Marketer and Lead Storyteller at Global Experiences. She hails from Greenville, South Carolina and she earned her BA in Public Relations from the University of South Carolina in 2011. Meghan fell in love with travel in high school after spending time working in an orphanage in Sofia, Bulgaria and later interning in Dublin, Ireland through Global Experiences.
Director of Academic Internships for Global Experiences
Melissa Vivian is the Director of Academic Internships for Global Experiences, developing custom internship programs with university and colleges. She is a licensed professional counselor and lecturer with a master's degree in Mental Health and Wellness from New York University. Melissa has been working in higher education for several years, counseling, teaching and supervising the internships of college students in New York City and London. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois and has extensive international experience, studying abroad at Oxford University, working on a fishing and boat in Australia and acting as the European Placement and London Program Director for Global Experiences. Melissa has special academic and clinical interests in the areas of career development, well-being, experiential education and wilderness therapy, and practices strengths-based counseling. Her own Top 5 Gallup Strengths are Communication, Maximizer, Adaptability, Woo and Achiever.
