Message From Dr. Gary Weaver

Welcome to Intercultural Management Training at American University. We provide cross-cultural and international education, training and research for scholars, practitioners and clients who deal with communication and negotiation between people of different cultures. Our customized training programs, institutes, symposiums, and conferences are led by many of the foremost experts in various aspects of intercultural relations ranging from international negotiation and conflict to cross-cultural adaptation, multicultural management and international education.

We began as the Business Council for International Understanding Institute (BCIU) in 1957 at about the same time as the opening of the School of International Service at American University. In those days, our clients were primarily business executives from Fortune 500 companies who were being relocated overseas. We have a broad scope that includes both domestic and international cross-cultural issues, diplomatic training, multicultural management, and international negotiation. We also now provide graduate-level professional development courses in the School of International Service and we have an annual spring conference that brings together a broad array of people in this field. For the past ten years we have also published the Intercultural Management Quarterly (IMQ) which is widely read by scholars and practitioners.
