Students in the Mentorship in England program will have a pre-departure orientation on American University’s campus in Washington, DC (estimated dates are September 21 and 22 – departing DC on September 22). The orientation is for students and parents and it includes an introduction of faculty and staff, academic overview, student conduct and discipline, expectations of students abroad, cultural assimilation, resources for students abroad, and the transition back to AU. Students and parents are responsible for coordinating their own travel to/from Washington, DC, as well as overnight accommodations for the on campus orientation.
*All students living outside of the US at the time of the September orientation are still required to attend the orientation in DC.
Orientation at BSU
Program staff and students will arrive in late September before the start of BSU classes (the week of September 25). Upon arrival in England, students will participate in a multi-day orientation (September 24-28) led by BSU. The orientation will cover topics related to BSU’s academic and non-academic services and facilities. Fall semester classes and finals will be completed by December 13, with travel back to the US estimated for December 15.
An AU professor (who will teach the Introduction to College Inquiry and Intercultural Understanding courses) and one advisor (to manage student discipline and academic issues, arrange cohort excursions, etc.) will be assigned to lead the AU students and will have weekly office hours for the students. Students will have access to BSU student activities and campus services and facilities.
