Student of the Week: Maria Salas

ELTA

By Shannon Smith

Student of the Week Maria Salas

Maria Clara Salas Planchart was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Since she was little, she has been interested in helping others. In high school, she had to the opportunity do community service work along side several non-profit organizations. Salas believes that college is for teaching and helping others understand, interact with, and respect other cultures. As an international student herself, she says that it's hard to come to another country and immediately blend into a different society. She is grateful that SPExS has helped her communicate and interact with students from all over the world.

What is one hidden talent that you posses?

A talent that no one knows about me is that I am very skilled at archery.

What is one thing you cannot live without?

If I had to choose just one thing that I could not live without it would be Camp Jeanne d'Arc, a summer camp that I have been going to for the past 11 cosecutive years.

Finish this sentence: The world needs more...

people who are willing to give without expecting anything in return.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I see myself working at a non-profit organization like UNICEF. I want the children around the world to have the same opportunities that I did as a child. If I am not working at a non-profit organization, I see myself opening a summer camp with my best friend Katie, for unfortunate children. I want to start a summer camp so children can experience a fun and safe environment to learn and grow like I did at Campe Jeanne d'Arc. I will always work toward the happiness and the safety of all the children around the world.
