The School of Professional & Extended studies is pleased to offer several options for summer study. Live, learn, and experience the world of Washington D.C. as a part of the programs below. See additional courses offered in summer by SPExS faculty.

WASHINGTON SEMESTER SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

This experiential learning program will help you enhance your resume, explore career opportunities, and immerse yourself in current events, all while having a wonderful summer in D.C.!

GRADUATE PROFESSIONAL STUDIES IN POLITICAL COMMUNICATION

Whether you are a young professional looking to better position yourself in the work place, or a recent graduate wanting to learn the ways of Washington, Graduate Political Studies in Political Communication will give you the skills needed to navigate the present and future challenges of political communication.

WASHINGTON INTERNSHIPS FOR NATIVE STUDENTS

WINS offers students of American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian (AI/AN/NH) nations the opportunity to build leadership and advocacy skills while living, studying, and interning in Washington, DC.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING ACADEMY

The English Language and Training Academy (ELTA) serves as American University’s primary center for English language study for students and professionals seeking to strengthen English language skills or learn about American culture and approaches to education and training. ELTA offers Part Time and Intensive options.

MAYMESTER PROGRAM

This May 2016 study trip to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Hungary will focus on the plight of refugees fleeing the Middle East and North Africa.

G-MEO STUDY TOUR

The g-MEO Summer Study Tour is a two-week travel and study program that brings Chinese university students to American University in partnership with Global Maximum Educational Opportunities Inc. (g-MEO).
