AU STAFF CUPCAKE COMPETITION: OFFICIAL RULES
CUPCAKES: Please bring at least one and a half dozen (18) cupcakes; seventeen cupcakes for judging and one cupcake for your display. Contestants are highly encouraged to bring additional cupcakes to allow more attendees to taste/judge them. Cupcakes must be in standard cupcake liners. Participants may submit multiple entries.
PRESENTATION: Please bring a small sign stating the type of your cupcake. Please put your name on the sign. This is considered part of your presentation. Fun names tend to capture the imagination of the tasters/judges. Props are permitted to help tell your cupcakes' story.
RECIPE: You may scratch bake or doctor up a box mix prior to baking (example: adding canned pumpkin to a vanilla box mix). You are required to submit a list of ingredients at check-in. Nuts are permitted; please be sure to accurately label cupcakes containing nuts or nut derivatives.
CHECK-IN: Contestants must arrive at The Tavern to set up 30 minutes prior to the tasting start time. Please check-in when you arrive. You will randomly be assigned to your station. You are not required to stay with your cupcakes during the event, however, attendees and judges enjoy speaking with the bakers directly.
VOTING PROCEDURE: Each cupcake will be judged by all attendees and celebrity judges. Judge's ballots will be collected and tabulated to determine the winners in the Best Tasting and Most Creative Categories. Best Tasting and Most Creative winners will be announced at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 20. Fan Favorite tokens will be collected and tabulated following the event.
Judging is based on the following criteria:
- Taste
- Overall texture
- Overall appearance
- Overall creativity
Categories include:
- Best Tasting
- Most Creative
- Fan Favorite - the favorite, as determined by attendees
