MEMORANDUM
December 17, 2008
| TO: | Campus Community |
| FROM: | Sarah Irvine Belson, Vice Chair, Strategic Planning Committee |
| SUBJECT: | Strategic Plan Implementation: Draft Action Steps |
____________________________________________________________________________
The Strategic Planning Steering Committee is pleased to release a draft list of “major” action steps for your review and comment. The list is sorted according to the goals listed in the strategic plan and was compiled from feedback received over the 10-month strategic planning process.
In identifying action steps, the committee reviewed more than 400 documents containing over 1,400 items which appeared in meeting notes, e-mail messages, and blog postings. We compiled an all-inclusive list of suggested action steps and condensed them down to the approximately 250 action steps contained here. In distilling the number of action steps, the committee identified those that:
- had university-wide impact and implications
- were doable
- allow for significant movement toward the goal
- are relevant to the goal and the university
In reviewing this list, you will notice that it contains a wide range of ideas, including some that are simply not truly university-wide, major, or otherwise strategic. In addition, we have eliminated many overlapping or duplicate ideas, but there remain instances where the same basic ideas appear under multiple goals.
Because the draft action steps will be discussed at the President’s Council meeting on Friday, December 19, we would like your feedback as soon as possible. We hope you will engage in a discussion with us and with each other, and we look forward to continuing to serve as a resource to the entire university community.
