Arriving
by Bus or Metro
From Union Station, National Airport,
or downtown Washington: Washington's Metro trains
run Monday through Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to midnight, Friday 5:30
am to 3 am, Saturday 7:00 am to 3:00 am and Sunday 7:00 am to midnight.
The closest Metro stop to American University is Tenleytown/AU
on the Red Line. There is a free AU Shuttle operating between
Tenleytown station and the AU main campus which runs frequently.
To catch the shuttle, exit the Tenleytown Metro station and walk
straight towards Hollywood Video. The bus will pick you up at the
bus stop. For more information on shuttle schedules, check out the
AU Transportation
Page.
More
on the Metro--Fees
and How to Pay
The metro will cost you at least $1.35 one way, depending on the
time of day (more during rush hours). To purchase a Metro card,
enter the Metro station and look for the ticket machines, usually
found on the righthand side before the gates. Put in money, and
if you need change just push buttons on the machine to reduce the
amount of the ticket, and then push the "issue ticket" button to
receive a paper ticket with a magnetic strip. You might want
to buy a ticket for $10 or $20 dollars right away so you don't have
to stop and buy one every time you ride the Metro.
