Staff Orientation
During the staff orientation, new staff members will receive information about the history and culture of AU, university policies and procedures, benefits, payroll and training. A campus tour designed specifically for staff members will also be included, as will an orientation to technology at AU. NOTE: This is a mandatory, full-day session for all new full-time staff at the university.

This is a half day program for supervisors of service providers.

Gain a high-level view on the university's budget process and financial standing; Learn the who, what, and why in planning, managing, and accounting for the university's fiscal resources; Get a sampling of the technological tools that support fiscal management at AU.
Management Essentials
This program provides supervisors and managers with a comprehensive overview of American University Human Resources policies and procedures used to carry out their managerial duties in compliance with university policy, employment policies and employment law, compensation policies, recruiting, e-actions, timesheet management, managing a flexible work force, employee probation, and the basics of short-and long-term disability and FMLA.

Performance Management Program Mid-year Discussion for Managers
To prepare managers with the content, skills and tools they'll need to successfully meet the new people-manager competencies of "Managing Performance" and "Developing Talent", this workshop will focus on:
1. Best practices in conducting mid-year PMP review discussions, and how to update/add goals in the AsuccessfulU system;
2. Mid-year discussions, part 1 - goals progress; best practices and challenging situations cases;
3. Mid-year discussions, part 2 - competency review and action plan; challenging situations cases;
4. Developmental Planning - best coaching practices; challenging situation cases; how to record learning activities on the Achievement Plan document within AsuccessfulU;
5. Options managers have available when addressing performance issues throughout the year; and
6. AsuccessfulU - navigating the electronic system, progress/activity dashboards.
