UPDATE REGARDING ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS ACTIVITY
This week the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin their work beneath the Public Safety Building, as mentioned in President Kerwin’s February 5 and April 14 letters to campus. This low-probability work will entail eight sideways borings to assess the soil and determine if anything from the World War I era is present under the building that might require removal. Public Safety personnel have been briefed about the work and the most probable side-effect—intermittent noise and some minor vibrations. After the work is done and the soil samples analyzed, the Army Corps will make final recommendations regarding the site and any remaining or additional work to be done. As with all other Army Corps work being done on AU property, the work plan has been thoroughly reviewed and all safety protocols will be followed.
