ARMY CORPS UPDATE

The Army Corps has notified us that while conducting their routine operations on a residential property adjacent to campus at 4621 Rockwood Parkway, they found a 75mm shell that dates to World War I. The Army Corps safety protocol dictates that the shell must be removed according to standard procedures, which includes having personnel in safety suits procure the item, transport it in an armored truck to the Army site adjacent to the Sibley Hospital grounds for an assessment, and that D.C. safety officials be notified to assist. This is the same procedure used in previous occasions on campus and elsewhere during this project. Access to the residence should be via Rockwood Parkway; we do not anticipate this activity to affect normal AU operations. Updates will be provided as needed.
