MEMORANDUM October 3, 2001 TO: Parents - Child Development
Center FROM: David Taylor, Presidents Chief of Staff SUBJECT: Soil Sampling Results from the Child Development Center As you may recall from the June 22, 2001 campus communication, the University received soil-sampling results for the more than 200 compounds that the Army Corps of Engineers tested for at the Child Development Center (CDC). Dr. Paul Chrostowski, an environmental health scientist from CPF Associates hired by the University as a consultant in our work with the Army Corps, has completed his in-depth review of the data. In an effort to keep the campus informed, we provide the following assessment by Dr. Chrostowski. His analysis has confirmed that the overwhelming majority of compounds are at levels far below those of concern. The exceptions are arsenic, as we were aware, and some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The removal of both of these compounds is being addressed by the remediation and restoration activities at the CDC. If you have questions regarding this assessment, please call the information line, at (202) 885-2020. The University will continue to keep the campus community updated on the ongoing Corps of Engineers project at AU. |
