Washington Semester Housing
Tenley Campus
Students in the Washington Semester Program are housed at American University's Tenley Campus, located on the corner of Nebraska and Wisconsin Avenues, NW. Tenley Campus is half a mile from the main campus and two blocks from the Tenleytown-AU Metro Stop on the Red Line. The University Shuttle provides transportation between main campus, Tenley Campus, and the Metro.
The Tenley Campus is home to the Washington Semester Program, a one semester opportunity (Fall or Spring) for college students from around the country and world to earn 3-6 academic credit s and participate in an internship in the nation's capital, as well as the Washington Semester Summer Internship Program. Tenley Campus also hosts the Washington Mentorship Program, a one semester program for future first-year students to begin the transition to the college experience. Tenley campus also has a computer facility, the Tenley Area Recreation Center (TARC), and fitness room. There are 10 to 11 RAs living and working at the Tenley Campus.
Students living on the Tenley Campus are housed in three residence halls.
Congressional Hall features the central reception desk, which is staffed 24-hours a day and is where all Tenley Campus residents check in. Capital Hall is the oldest and most ornate hall boasting a wide marble staircase and high-ceilinged rooms. It also houses the Tenley Fitness Center and Tenley Area Recreation Center (TARC). Federal Hall contains the mail room and the cafeteria (Tenley Cafe) is on its first floor.
Signing Up for Housing
A link to the online housing application will be sent to you via e-mail by the Washington Semester Program Office. Once you have signed up for University housing, you are committed to living in the residence halls for the period noted. To withdraw without a late charge, a letter must be received in the Housing and Dining Programs Office by April 10th for the Summer semester.
Personal Property Insurance
Check with your parents to see if any or all of your possessions are covered by their homeowner's insurance plan. Many plans cover student possessions while at school. While we certainly hope that it doesn't happen to you, possessions sometimes are stolen, lost or destroyed. The university is not responsible for loss of personal property.
Arriving On Campus
Washington Semester Summer Internship Students living on Tenley Campus may move-in to their residence hall on Saturday, June 2 or Sunday, June 3, 2012. All interns should plan to attend a mandatory program orientation on Monday, June 4, 2012.
On-campus students may ship part of all of their personal belongings to their residence halls, but should plan to bring enough linens and clothing to last the first few days of the program. The Congressional front desk will not be open to receive packages until the specified check-in date. You will receive additional arrival information via the Accepted Students Portal.
