The WINS staff plans various cultural activities to acquaint students with Washington DC and with the broader American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian community. Activities may include:

  • Orientation, including a greeting by staff members of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on Capitol Hill, a team-based scavenger hunt through DC, and a welcome reception for all students, staff, Advisory Board, and sponsoring agencies
  • Film Series
  • “This Week in DC” calendar of noteworthy local activities distributed to all students and posted on a regular basis
  • Information about cultural activities such as concerts, plays, and sporting events
  • Weekly dormitory meetings hosted by WINS Resident Assistants. The sessions are used to discuss issues, build community,  and prepare for the coming week
  • Powwow on AU main campus to honor WINS interns
  • Farewell ceremony for students attended by staff, Advisory Board members, intern supervisors, and WINS faculty.
