American University Alumni and Community Audit Terms and Conditions

American University (“AU”) is pleased to make classroom instruction available on a space available basis to holders of AU degrees who are in good standing with the university as well as community members age 55 and over who live in the 20016, 20015, 20008, and 20007 zip codes. An applicant must also demonstrate adherence to high standards of personal conduct and good citizenship which contribute to the overall well-being of the AU community.

You acknowledge that participation in the audit program is a privilege and approval is only guaranteed until the add/drop deadline, when the course is determined to be at capacity or not. Participation is limited to those classes in which the specified teaching limit is not reached prior to the end of the add/drop period and in which the participant has been granted professor or department approval. Due to enrollment demand by tuition-paying students, your participation in the audit program may be withdrawn, and you may either select another course that is still open or may receive a refund of the processing fee. You agree that no refunds will be given for courses dropped by you after the end of the add/drop period.

Courses audited under the audit program will not be recorded on your permanent record. If you wish formal recognition of a course audit or wish to receive academic credit for a course, you must process your registration and pay tuition in accordance with procedures described in the Schedule of Classes.

You agree that you will comply with all AU’s policies and procedures, including but not limited to AU’s Code of Conduct. A copy of AU’s policies is available at http://www.american.edu/policies/.

You agree that AU has the right to enforce its policies and the standards of conduct described above. In the event of violation of any of the above, academic failure, or behavior which is detrimental to you, to other community members, or to AU, AU, in its sole discretion, shall have the right to immediately dismiss you from the audit program. The decision is final and may result in the loss of paid fees for the audit program. You agree that you, including your parents, guardians, or legal representatives, shall not hold AU, its trustees, officers, or agents responsible for any costs or losses resulting from such events.

You acknowledge that AU reserves the right to remove, modify, or decline these auditing privileges and offerings at any time without notice.

You certify that the information given by you on this application is complete and accurate. You understand that any misrepresentation or omission of material information may be cause for refusing or revoking your participation to or for dismissal from the audit program. You understand that AU may confirm the authenticity and accuracy of the information submitted with or in support of your application, and you authorize AU to do so.
