Alumni Board Seeks New Members

President Sylvia Burwell and an alumna shake hands.

Looking for ways to reconnect with your alma mater? Interested in helping make key decisions about outreach and programming to your fellow Eagles? The American University Alumni Board is looking for energetic, action-oriented volunteers to serve. The Alumni Board will begin accepting applications for its 2021-23 term on Wednesday, August 26. All interested alumni are encouraged to apply.

The Alumni Board is comprised of a wide range of dedicated and committed individuals who represent AU’s alumni community. Each member serves a two-year term, providing strategic insight and professional expertise to assist in the university's outreach to alumni. These dedicated volunteers serve as ambassadors for and to the university and work to engage all alumni in the life of the institution.

Here are the details:

• Each term of office lasts two years, and members may serve up to two consecutive terms.

• Board members must attend four meetings per year and serve both as stewards to and for the general alumni body.  Meetings are held typically held during business hours on weekdays.

• Members are expected to represent the Alumni Board at AU events, promote the university, and contribute gifts of at least $2,000 during each two-year term.

Joining the Alumni Board is an excellent way to hone leadership skills, help shape the future of AU, and most importantly, give back. While the nominations process for the board is competitive, membership is very rewarding. Members play an active role in guiding the efforts and initiatives of the Office of Alumni Relations and serve as key ambassadors for AU.

A nominations committee will review applications and present a slate of prospective new members to Rob Johnson, SPA/BS ’81, Alumni Board president, for approval and appointment. New board members will assume responsibilities beginning in January 2021.

To nominate yourself or a fellow alumnus/a/i, submit an application and current résumé and/or bio online by Wednesday, September 16, 2020. Please contact Carlita Pitts, director of alumni engagement, at cpitts@american.edu or Amy Lampert, SOC/BA '94, chair of the nominations and governance committee, at alampert@aol.com with questions.
