Working in the fast paced world of current events is enough to keep anyone’s schedule packed or on hold for the next big newsworthy item. But for Natasha Barrett, SOC/BA ’00, even her busy career in news media won’t be keeping her away from her 10-year reunion this fall at AU’s All-American Weekend.

Barrett is a talk show host at WJLA-TV in Washington. She cohosts Let’s Talk Live every weekday at 11 a.m. and contributes live reports to ABC 7 News daily. She also serves on her Class of 2000, 10-Year Reunion Planning Committee at AU. Both jobs are well suited for Barrett’s curiosity and talent for finding - and - spreading the word.

In the past 10 years, Barrett has covered a variety of topics, from going undercover for investigative reporting assignments about criminals, to following in the wake of natural disasters. “Once I exposed a threat of lead poisoning to local police officers. It was so rewarding knowing that I was potentially saving officers and their families.”

Recently, Barrett aired a story about a Gaithersburg, Md., boy who received a prosthetic leg, and whose doctor was heading to Haiti to teach other doctors about prosthetics. “Talking to that boy really made me appreciate my own life more and made me rethink all of the little things I complain about every day,” she says.

Barrett's favorite part of the job is getting to meet the many interesting people who pass through D.C… which gives her the perfect segue into talking about why she’s looking forward to seeing what her fellow class of 2000 alumni are up to at the 10-year reunion she’s helping to plan for October 22. When asked “Is there anything you’d like to say to encourage your classmates from 2000 to join you at their 10-year reunion?” she responded, “Hmm… what doesn’t sound too corny? ‘Come back and see who has the most wrinkles’ or ‘come back and see who’s had botox.’”
