The Consulate of Chile Presents Pianist Maria Teresa

The Consulate of Chile in New York proudly presents pianist Maria Teresa in a solo piano recital. María Teresa began her musical studies at the Escuela Moderna de Música (Chile), continuing in the Facultad de Artes of the Universidad de Chile and later in the Instituto de Música de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Once María Teresa obtained her undergraduate degree in Musical Arts (Piano Performance), she traveled to New York and enrolled in Manhattan School of Music. At MSM María Teresa obtained the degrees Master of Music and a Post Master /Professional Studies Certificate under pianist Philip Kawin, majoring in Piano Performance, Theory and Music History.

María Teresa is currently a Doctor in Musical Arts of the State University of New York in Stony Brook in the piano performance area under the renowned American pianist Gilbert Kalish, and the "Emerson String Quartet", Colin Carr, Pamela Frank y Philippe Graffin in the chamber music area. Her Doctoral dissertation was successfully approved, it was an analytical study on the programmatic elements –literary- of the french impresionism.

María Teresa has extensively performed in Europe, USA and Latin America.
She has played in many festivals such as "Summer Music Festival" hosted by the "Emerson String Quartet" (NY), Vladimir Feldman's piano festival "New Paltz" (NY), Festival de Música Alcalá de Henares (España), Merano Fest (Italia), and the International Contemporary Musical Festival of the University of Chile where María Teresa was an international guest.

María Teresa has performed with several chamber and contemporary music
ensembles. Some of these groups include the Empire Piano Trio (Piano-Violin-Cello), Syzygy Ensemble a contemporary music ensemble from New York, Contemporary Chamber Players, composer's premieres at the Julliard School of Music and the International Festival of Contemporary Music in Santiago, Chile.

Some of María Teresa's performances in Latin America include the Teatro
Municipal de Santiago (Chile), Sala Isidora Zegers (Chile), Teatro Municipal de Antofagasta, Teatro de la Universidad de Concepción, Teatro las Cámaras de Quito (Ecuador), Sala Capilla del Mar Cartagena de Indias (Colombia).

Her performances in the US include the Morse Recital Hall -Lincoln Center (NY), Staller Center (NY), Pforzimer Hall (NY), Weill Hall -Carnegie Hall (NY), Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (Maryland), Boston Center (Boston) and the Cohen Studio Theater (Cincinnati) just to mention some.

Besides being an active performer María Teresa is an avid advocate for musical education, collaborating with several programs that provide musical education for students and the less privileged children in Chile. Also involved with the community María Teresa is part of the "Sing for Hope" initiative which provides musical performances for the ill and their families through the major hospitals in the city of New York.
