Master Degree Options for City Year
American University has partnered with City Year to offer Master degree options to City Year corps members, alumni and staff who will be able to choose from three degrees in AU's School of Education (SOE). These programs are built on a cohort-based design, are offered in an online or on-the-ground format, include scholarships for City Year participants, and are designed for those participants who want to make a lasting positive difference in the lives of children and engage in transformative education policy and practice.
- Masters in Special Education: Learning Disabilities (K-12) (30 credits)
- Master of Arts in Teaching: Early Childhood (preK-3), Elementary (1-6), Secondary (7-12) (30-33 credits)
Masters of Education (MEd) in Education Policy and Leadership - Policy Studies Track or Teacher Leadership Track (30 credits)
The priority deadline to apply for fall enrollment is Feb 1 and the 2 nd deadline is March 1. Applications are accepted and processed on a rolling admissions basis until cohorts are filled. The application process for AISGW participants:

Official transcripts (sealed) from any institutions previously attended;
Special Education and MAT Candidates must submit passing scores on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Exam (CORE) electronically using code 5007
a Letter of Intent (which is included in the online application) written by the applicant related to his or her background and career interests.
Please indicate your City Year experience in your letter of intent as part of the application.
SOE will waive the application fee and the letters of recommendation requirement. City Year participants should have completed their year of service before entering this program; however, currently serving corps members are encouraged to apply during their corps year and if accepted, are eligible for all benefits specified above upon successful completion of their corps year.

To Verify Your City Year Affiliation
Applicants seeking to be considered for City Year's National Service Scholars Program are required to submit a letter verifying their City Year affiliation. Please send an email to the City Year Alumni & Career Services Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org with "American University SOE: City Year verification letter request" in the subject line and include the site where you served and dates of service in the email. This letter will be sent to the American University SOE program office and added to your applicant file.
