Heather McDonald earned her MFA from American University and her BA from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. Prior to teaching, she was a web writer and editor. She is interested in transferability between creative writing and composition; empathy and gratitude in pedagogy; memoir; literary journalism; and food writing. Her essay, "How to Fix Everything," was named Creative Nonfiction magazine's Best Food essay, appearing in the Spring 2011 issue. The essay was named a Notable Essay for Best American Essays 2012, by guest editor David Brooks and series editor Robert Atwan. Her work has also been published in XOJane and The Rumpus.
