Ilona Kessell has taught in academic, commercial and conservatory studios, including: the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Goucher College and the Chautauqua Institute. Currently, she directs the Dance Programs at the McDonogh School, an independent prep school in Owings Mills, MD. She is a ten-time Helen Hayes Award Nominee for Outstanding Choreography, winning the Award twice for her work on Damn Yankees and Ragtime- the Musical. She has also received an Individual Artist's Award for Choreography from the Maryland State Arts Council. Kessell is a member of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, a national theatrical labor union.
