Tessa is a proud AU alum! She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Health Promotion Management (minor in Health Communication) from American University in 1997 and 2001 (respectively). During her time at AU, she was actively involved in the Wellness Center as a peer health educator and as an intern. She describes serving as the Director of the Wellness Center as “full circle moment” and as “coming back home.”
Prior to returning to AU, Tessa worked as Georgetown University’s Social Norms Coordinator and Health Communication Specialist for seven years. In addition to developing and implementing the university’s social norms campaign, she also developed various wellness and risk-reduction programs.
As Director of the Wellness Center, Tessa oversees the daily operations of the office and spearheads the development of outreach programs for various topics, including sexual health, sexual assault, alcohol and other drugs, stress, and nutrition.
Tessa is also a Certified Health Education Specialist.
