Um Kalthoum Group

The Um Kalthoum Group, the main performing arts group of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture’s Higher Ministry of Arts, is named after the late Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, the most beloved female vocalist in the Arabic world.

More than three decades after her death in 1975, she is still widely regarded as the greatest female Arabic singer in history and is affectionately referred to by her legions of fans worldwide as the “Star of the East” (Kawkab al-Shar in Arabic).

Thanks to the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and World Artists Experiences (WAE), fans of great international music on the Shore can experience firsthand all of Umm Kulthum’s songs in this very special concert.

The widely acclaimed group performing on the Avalon stage will include 12 musicians from the larger group, using six violins, one reed flute, one cello, one contrabass, some classic Arabic musical instruments, and six solicit singers.

They will perform songs in the spirit of the late, great Umm Kulthum with lyrics written by famous Egyptian poets and songwriters.
