Dr. Derek Penslar will present the first lecture about Theodor Herzl in the Seymour and Lillian Abensohn Chair Inaugural Lecture series on The Founders of Israel and their Relevance Today. Reception in Kreeger Lobby following lecture.

Dr. Penslar is the Samuel Zacks Professor of Jewish History at the University of Toronto and the Stanley Lewis Professor of Israel Studies at Oxford University. Author of several books about Israel, he is currently writing a biography of Theodor Herzl for Yale University Press' Jewish Lives series.

The remaining lectures in the series on David Ben Gurion and Chaim Weizmann will be presented on October 8 and November 19, respectively by Dr. Anita Shapira and Dr. Jehuda Reinharz.
