An American's Comic Encounter with Bolshevik Russia
Released in 1924, Lev Kuleshov's film is notable as the first silent comedy to explicitly challenge American stereotypes about Soviet Russia. Mr. West and his cowboy friend Jeddie find themselves embroiled with anti-revolutionary gangsters as they arrive in Moscow to spread the YMCA message. Q&A to follow with Dr. Elizabeth Papazian (UMD College Park). Come enjoy delicious Russian food and great cinema. Bring a friend for a special night out with the AU Initiative for Russian Culture!
