Sara Bowman

My name is Sara Bowman, and I am a junior at American University majoring in psychology. Growing up as the child of a mental health professional, I realized from a young age that I wanted to understand psychological differences and treat individuals with mental health disorders. My research interests lie in clinical psychology, specifically in the areas of depressive and anxiety disorders. After taking Dr. Riley’s “Drugs and Behavior” course, I have also expanded my interests to the neurobiology and treatments of substance use disorder.
Assisting in the psychopharmacology lab will be my first experience in a research setting. I will work with Katie Nelson in her study on the effects of ethanol pre-exposure on synthetic cathinone a-PVP use. After graduation, I plan to bring my experience from the psychopharmacology lab to a Ph.D. program in clinical psychology.
