I have recently received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at American University. After taking Dr. Riley's Drugs and Behavior course at the start of my third year, I developed a serious interest in the different cycles of drug use and abuse and wanted to gain a better understanding of how addiction works at both a psychological and biological level. Currently, I am open to pursuing a PhD in either Clinical Psychology or Behavioral Neuroscience. In the future, I want to open my own rehabilitation clinic, or become the head of my own laboratory, researching the underlying mechanisms of addiction and possible methods of treatment.
For almost two years now, I have been involved in research looking at the relationship between Western Diet consumption (and obesity) and drug use (and addiction). Previous research has shown that while these are two different stimuli, they both produce effects on the mesolimbic system. So far, we have looked at the impact that this diet, high in saturated fats, carbohydrates, and sugars, has on the abuse potential and affective properties of drugs.
