Kathryn Walters-Conte, PhD is the Director of STEM Partnerships and Outreach for the College of Arts and Sciences. She is the Principal Investigator and Program Director for the AU I-CORPS site program and has an affiliate appointment in the Kogod School of Business where she is an advisor for the American University Center for Innovation. Dr. Walters-Conte is one of the founding members of the Initiative for STEM Education, Equity and Ethics, a collaborative dedicated to broadening participation in the sciences. She also remains active in evolutionary genomics research and has an adjunct faculty appointment in the Department of Biology. Prior to academia, Dr. Walters-Conte worked in the biotechnology sector and held positions at multiple government laboratories. She earned her BS in Physiology and Neurobiology from the University of Maryland, an MS in Forensic Molecular Biology from George Washington University, and a PhD in Systematics and Evolution from George Washington University.
