The CLALS Colombia Initiative is a forthcoming suite of projects focused on three principal themes: the environment, development, and inclusion. Through partnerships with Colombian academics, civil society, and government agencies at the local, provincial, and national level, the Center will mobilize expertise across American University to analyze these themes in contemporary Colombia. CLALS Research Fellow Luis Gilberto Murillo will play a leading role in the organization of these projects in collaboration with Center Director Eric Hershberg.
Additional details on the Initiative will be posted here as they become available.
Film Screening: El Sendero de la Anaconda
Malsi Doyle and Michael Forman Theater, McKinley Hall
CLALS will present a screening of the documentary El Sendero de la Anaconda with a panel discussion to follow. The film follows writer Wade Davis and anthropologist Martin Von Hildebrand as they travel the Apaporis river in the Colombian amazon and their conversations with indigenous communities they meet. Their journey sparks reflections and discussion on Colombia's environment and the tension between indigenous and modern ways of life that exists amongst these communities.
This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Environmental Filmmaking at American University, with support from Caracol Television.
