Calling all AU faculty, staff and students:

In three minutes or less, address a lab or research safety topic in a new and creative way. Submit your video by March 23, 2018 at 11:59 pm EST to be considered for the $500 prize.

Guidelines

  1. Maximum play time is 3:00 minutes
  2. Must contain a title, which appears in writing at some point during playback
  3. Must have one Lead Producer to serve as the point of contact. If selected, prize will be distributed to the Lead Producer.
  4. All information presented (music, graphics, etc) must be original. Violations adjudicated under the Academic Integrity Code will result in a disqualification. (See Resources Section for additional information) 
  5. File format should be in Flash MPEG-4 (MP4).
  6. No entry fees. Winner announced April 2018.  
  7. Environmental Health & Safety reserves the right to cancel the competition at any time and for any reason
How to enter: To be eligible to win, participants must submit a creative video addressing one or more laboratory safety topics. Maximum allowable run time for each video is three minutes. Participants must upload their video through the Environmental Health & Safety website at

Video should be creative in concept, but tasteful and appropriate. All video must be positive in nature. Any vulgar gestures, sexually explicit language or gestures or anything deemed to be offensive by American University will be disqualified.

Contest Timeline: Contest begins Feb 23, 2018 at 12:00 a.m. and ends on March 25 at 11:59 p.m. (EST). Entries must be submitted between Feb 23 and March 25, 2018. Late entries will not be considered. Winner will be announced April 2018.

Winner notification and prize claim: One video will be selected and the winner will be announced in April 2018. The producer of the winning video will be contacted via the email address provided at time of entry. A $500 AU Rewards card will be awarded to the video's designated producer through American University's Accounts Payable department. All funds issued through AU Rewards are taxable to the recipient. If the recipient is an AU employee, the value received will be included on their W-2. If the recipient is not an AU employee, the value is subject to 1099 reporting.

Eligibility: Winner must provide name, address, phone number, and email to claim the prize. Prizes will be available for pickup at American University's Accounts Payable department in Spring Valley Building room 358. Participants must be 18 or over before April 23, 2018. Contest is open to American University faculty, staff and students, except for members of the University Police & Emergency Management and Risk, Safety & Transportation Programs departments, whom are ineligible. American University reserves the rights to publish winning and non-winning videos to the American University webpage. American University reserves the right to cancel and/or change the terms of the contest without prior notice.

By submitting their videos online, participants agree to the following statement:

No purchase necessary. All entries become the property of American University and may be published in any format. By uploading my media to American University's webpage, I hereby grant American University an irrevocable non-exclusive license to display, copy, and distribute copies (in print, electronic, and/or any digital format) of my video which I submitted for the Lab Safety Video Contest, and to incorporate any submitted video recordings, in whole or in part, into derivative works for educational, research, archival, marketing, promotional, and other purposes consistent with the mission of American University. I also represent and warrant that: (i) I am the sole author, creator, and owner of the video; (ii) except for material used by permission, none of the intellectual property rights in the video, or any portion thereof, has been assigned or transferred; (iii) the video, through its creation and its submission as an entry, does not violate any applicable laws; (iv) the video, through its creation and its submission as an entry, does not infringe upon or violate intellectual property rights held by any third person or party. I also agree that no compensation shall be due to me. I hereby release American University, its officers, directors, agents, and employees from all liability or legal responsibility that may arise from the acts granted herein.
