Capital Campaign Success Story

Alumnus Support Helps Business Students Succeed

Richard Hocker.

Richard Hocker, KSB/BS ’68, KSB/MBA ’70, believes in the power of education to transform lives.  The founder and chief investment officer of PENN Capital Management has made generous donations to two educational institutions that helped shape his life, the Valley Forge Military Academy, and American University.

Hocker was inspired to make a $750,000 gift to support Kogod’s new builing addition after President Neil Kerwin’s confirmation as AU’s 14th president.  Hocker also credits his classmate and Zeta Beta Tau fraternity brother, Ronald Boots Nissenbaum, with keeping AU atop his mind.  “Boots is like AU’s own private lobbying arm,” says Hocker.

“I know how important Kogod’s new building addition is to the school and am pleased to make this gift,” says Hocker.  This gift, along with PENN Capital’s ongoing support of two Bloomberg terminals, will support the work that’s being done to ensure AU’s business students are getting the right tools and skills they need to succeed in today’s business environment.
