Saludos, Aguilas!

The Latino Alumni Alliance (LAA) has been hard at work the past five months connecting with alumni and Latino students and integrating ourselves at all levels of conversation to form a more inclusive and diverse community. Our Latinx alumni community has grown to more than 7,000 alumni in more than 45 countries worldwide! To that we must say fantastico! Let’s keep growing our lifelong and global network to serve as a support system and influential voice for the university-wide Latinx/a/o community.

The LAA has made it a priority to ensure our undergrads and our alumni feel part of American University’s comunidad. Nuestra comunidad, our community, is what is going to make us better, stronger, and a united force against unwanted racially charged incidents. Comunidad is what unites us.

We support the university's strides towards Inclusive Excellence and truly believe that we are all changemakers in an ever-changing world. As President Burwell expressed in her remarks during the recent Alumni Board Dinner, AU’s engagement with the DC community is a goal that we should all strive for. We can all lend our time, talent, and treasure in ways that will ultimately make a great impact. Today, we challenge you to come together to send a powerful public message of unity and love.

We accepted the opportunity to lead with the mission to raise the profile of AU’s Latinx/a/o comunidad and to strengthen the bonds between students and alumni. We remain proud AU Aguilas!
