A year since its launch, Change Can’t Wait has now raised over $349 million towards its historic $500 million goal. This in turn supports Changemakers by creating transformative educational opportunities for students, advancing research with impact, and building stronger communities locally, nationally, and globally.
American University alumni have enthusiastically responded to the campaign with extraordinary commitments of time and resources. Gifts have created or expanded over 100 scholarship funds, increased support for equity-based funds by 68 percent year over year and established the university’s first fully endowed Eminent Scholar Chair. These are just a few examples of how Change Can’t Wait: The Campaign for American University is advancing research with impact, empowering AU to take on society’s most complex challenges, and promoting student thriving.

“Through alumni support, I have been able to focus on my dissertation research and work towards future career goals. During my time here, I have taken classes in political methodology, comparative politics, and American politics—which were all taught by leading experts in the field. I had opportunities to work with multiple professors on a variety of projects. Some of them turned into coauthored works. I plan to pursue a career in university teaching and research, give my students state-of-the-art knowledge, and train them to become experts in their future careers.”
