CareFirst Well-Being Connect is available to all faculty and staff covered by CareFirst medical benefits.
The journey to better health and wellness starts with CareFirst Well-Being Connect: www.carefirst.com. The suite of wellness services and programs are designed to empower you with the information, tools and support you and your family need to take charge or your health. The tools found on CareFirst Well-Being Connect help you address a wide spectrum of needs all faculty and staff covered by CareFirst medical benefits.
The Well-Being Assessment is available from April through October 2016.

Yes. You are able to access the Health + Wellness Program from any computer and take advantage of the wellness tools and resources when it is convenient for you.

The confidential questionnaire is your personal health assessment, providing you with a snapshot of your overall wellness, complete with personalized results. The questionnaire asks about your daily lifestyle habits, including nutrition, physical activity, stress, tobacco use, personal safety, as well as medical history, preventive screenings, any current health conditions, and results from recent medical tests. The questions help summarize your overall wellness and determine if any lifestyle habits or factors are creating health risks. Upon completing your questionnaire, you will receive a Well-Being Score and insights and tools that can help you improve the different areas of your well-being, including your emotional and physical well-being, healthy behaviors, work environment and more.
If you have recently had blood work done, you may want to use your lab results to answer some of the questions. However, lab work results aren't necessary to complete the assessment.
After you have completed your Well-Being Assessment, the following day you will be able to log back in to create your well-being plan. Take advantage of the personalized tools, support and other resources the Health + Wellness Program gives you. The Well-Being Plan gives you simple actions to take and trackers to use for your focus areas (fitness, nutrition, stress management and more).
There are many tools available to you including:
- Daily Challenges: Get one simple action to take each day for better well-being. Learn why it matters, fun facts, and encourage your colleagues, family and friends to do it with you.
- Disease Management and Lifestyle Coaching: In a series of phone sessions, get support and resource to manage a condition or reach lifestyle goals. A coach may call you based on hour Well-Being Assessment or call 1-800-783-4582 to begin. Disease Management Coaching is available for medically insured only.
- QuitNet: Quit tobacco with the help of trained counselors, access to an online member community and encouraging email tips.
- Walkadoo: Looking to get more active? Participate in this daily activity program that sets up customized goals while making tacking your steps easy, fun and social.
- Financial Well-Being: Take charge of your financial health wit this interactive solution that provides you with tools to manage common financial issues like budgeting, investing, saving and more.
Telephonic health coaching is a health promotional resource that is available at no additional cost for CareFirst participants. Experienced and knowledgeable health professionals help you to understand your current health status and offer personalized support in areas that you may need improvement.
You may receive a phone call from a health coach if your results upon completing a well-being assessment indicate that you would benefit from telephonic health coaching. If you do not receive a phone call and wish to participate, simply self-enroll by calling 1-800-783-4582.
Telephonic health coaching is meant to focus on your needs. Coaching sessions can be tailored around your schedule and availability. You can choose what to talk about with your health coach and how often you want to have telephonic sessions. Telephonic health coaching is available on Monday through Friday, 8:30am-9pm and on Saturday, 8:30am-5:30pm.

Yes. For confidentiality, Well-Being Connect online portal is administered by Healthways, an independent company that provides health improvement management services to CareFirst participants.
CareFirst advises that the Well-Being Connect Online Portal is a secure website, and authenticates both you and your computer before you gain access to the website.
No, Participating in the Health + Wellness Programs and services, including the Well-Being Connect Assessment, and health coaching will not have a negative impact on you, your family, your job at American University, or your healthcare costs. These health and wellness resources are confidential and meant to help you live your healthiest life possible.
No. American University does not have access to any individual answers or results. Healthways will share the list of faculty and staff who have completed the Well-Being Assessment for distribution of rewards.
Well-Being Connect offers multiple ways to help you manage your healthcare costs. You can get a head start on great health by using the wellness tools and resources found on Well-Being Connect Online Portal. First, to understand your overall wellness, complete the Well-Being Assessment. After completing your confidential questionnaire, you will receive a Well-Being Score and insights that can help you improve the different areas of well-being, including your emotional and physical well-being, healthy behaviors, work environment and more.
