March with Pride Join AU's LGBTQ+ Faculty & Staff Affinity Group on Saturday, June 8

Join American University's LGBTQ+ Faculty & Staff Affinity Group, and Provost Dan Myers, as we march in the 2019 Capital Pride Parade on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Dupont and Logan Circles, NW.

This will be AU’s first time participating in the annual pride celebrations and we would like to have strong representation to showcase the inclusive and accepting nature of our campus community. As members of this community, we take great pride in the open and supportive environment that is being created for the faculty, staff, and students who call AU their home.

Our collective presence will show Washington, DC, and visitors, that we’re committed to the tenants set out in our Plan for Inclusive Excellence. Our plan highlights in Goal 2, “A focus on campus climate, culture, and community that makes our members feel safe, satisfied, and that they belong.” The Campus Pride Index currently scores us at a 4.5/5 stars, which is truly a point of pride that should be celebrated.

We’re hoping to attract a strong delegation of our university administration, faculty & staff, and students to march side-by-side in celebration of our community members. As the LGBTQ+ Faculty & Staff Affinity Group, we want to welcome your participation. Additionally, this is a specifically notable year to participate as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn Riots that sparked the beginning of the LGBTQ+ Rights Movement.

Please consider this invitation to join your colleagues and community members on June 8. RSVP to march with us by Monday, May 20 and receive a free t-shirt. Be sure to indicate your shirt size on your registration.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us personally or to our shared e-mail address lgbtqfsa@american.edu.

With great pride,

Stephanie Bortruex, Co-Chair, University Library and Richard Duncan, Co-Chair, Undergraduate Education
