Investing in Your Student

Find information and resources here to help you support your Kogod student during their first year at American University.

Welcome to American University and the Kogod School of Business.  Over the next four years, we will be focused on providing your student with the best education and collegiate experience possible. Your support of your own son, daughter, or guardian is a critical component in ensuring they feel grounded and confident during their time at AU.

There are many things for your student to learn and consider in the months ahead. This site is designed to be a quick resource for you, as parents, to know where they are in the semester and answer any questions you might have about support available to your student here on campus. Updates will be made to these pages throughout the school year, so be sure to bookmark it for easy access.

Welcome to the AU family, we're glad you're here.

The Freshman Year

August | September | October | November | December

End of August through Early September
  • Send in your immunizations and decide on whether to buy tuition insurance.

  • Students can add and drop classes without a penalty.

  • If a student says they don't like their class/faculty/syllabus, this is the time to make a change. Students should be attending class during this period of time and ensuring that they understand the faculty's attendance policy.

  • Students should check scholarship requirements to ensure that they are taking the right number of credits.

  • Attend Kogod Kick-off.
